For more than 30 years, what began as a small, family-run timber business has grown into a trusted name in the UK timber industry. Today, Avon Timber is proudly led by the second generation of the Lomasney family, continuing a legacy built on quality materials, expert advice and genuine customer care.
From a Single Vision to a Thriving Business
Avon Timber was founded by Geoff Lomasney in 1990, driven by a belief in quality timber and exceptional service. From the outset, Geoff’s vision was simple: to supply reliable, high-quality timber products that tradespeople, homeowners and builders could depend on — supported by personalised, knowledgeable advice.
In the early years, the business established itself in Rugby, building strong relationships through consistency, craftsmanship and a hands-on approach to customer service. As demand grew, the business expanded beyond its original roots to its current Baginton, Coventry site. While the business has evolved over the decades, the principles on which it was built have never changed.
Welcoming the Next Generation
As Avon Timber continued to grow, Geoff’s sons, Steve and Carl, joined the business, bringing fresh energy and new ideas while upholding the values their father instilled. Today, Steve manages the day-to-day running of the business at our Baginton site, supported by Carl — ensuring the family legacy continues with the same care, expertise and attention to detail.
Under their leadership, Avon Timber has invested significantly in growth and capability. Over the years, the site has expanded to include additional storage, improved office facilities and advanced mill extraction systems. Our fully equipped sawmill and joinery workshop allow us to offer machining, profiling and bespoke timber solutions entirely in-house — from custom door linings and mouldings to skirting and architraves made to exact specifications.

Although Avon Timber has grown considerably since 1990, one thing has never changed — our values. We proudly live by the motto: “Big enough to deliver, small enough to care.”

Giving back to the community has always been at the heart of Avon Timber. Over the years, we’ve supported a wide range of local causes and charities — from donating materials for community projects to sponsoring grassroots football teams and hosting charity golf days.
Recent initiatives include supplying timber to help bring Hollyfast Primary School’s festive Santa’s Grotto to life, as well as supporting Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice by sponsoring Strictly Christmas for the third year running. These efforts reflect our belief that success isn’t measured solely in sales, but in the positive impact a business can have on the communities that support it.
